In this review, we’ll explore the features, pros, and cons of the Griot’s Garage Ceramic 3-In-1 Wax so that you can decide if this product is worth it.
Griot’s Garage has been in the car detailing game for over 30 years. They have been providing a wide array of polishes, waxes, buffers, and pads which, for the most part, seem to have great results with their customers. This time, I was particularly interested in seeing how well this Griot’s Garage Ceramic would fare on my vehicle. So naturally, I went ahead and purchased a bottle so I can give a thorough review.
What Does Griot’s 3-In-1 Ceramic Wax Promise?
For this Griot’s 3-In-1 Ceramic Wax review, I ordered the 22oz bottle from Amazon. I saw on the bottle that it promised three things:
- Superior hydrophobic beading
- Extreme durability
- Intense gloss
So I decided to look at how well the wax held to these benefits by spraying a nice even coat on my passenger car door. Immediately, I noticed a major difference. I had read some other Griot’s Garage reviews on Amazon that warned about the product easily streaking whenever they tried to do a large area at once. So I took my time with each section of my car.
I sprayed the section, wiped it with one cloth, then buffed it with a separate one. It took some time to be completely finished, but the pay-off was worth it. I ended up with a glossy car that shined just as much as the first day I bought it.
Just for kicks, I tried spraying a large area of the other side of my car to see if it was possible to get the same shine as I did on the first side without spending a lot of time on it.
Even though there was some streaking, after going over the job with my dry cloth and spending some time buffing, the streaks were completely gone. That means it’s probably better to stick to the small areas as the reviews and the instructions on the bottle suggested. I would also advise doing thin coats at a time. I did about three thin layers because, after some research, I saw Griot’s suggested doing this instead of applying thick layers.
How Strong Is Griot’s Garage Ceramic?
To determine Griot’s Garage Ceramic strength, I looked at how well it held to its promise of superior hydrophobic beading. Unfortunately, my car has to be parked outside my apartment, but it gave me a chance to put the strength of the wax to the test since, where I live, it’s always raining. I have to hand it to Griot’s! From my experience, aside from Nexgen Ceramic Spray and Torque Detail Mirror Shine Torque, there aren’t many products that sheet water off the surface as well as it does.
The same goes for my windows. It beads water well, which makes the drying-off process a lot easier.
With regards to it reducing dirt, I’ve found that I can go a little longer between wash days. I attribute that to the fact that the Ceramic Wax gives the car a smooth surface, meaning dirt will have a lot less to stick to. It is the same for my windows. It beads water well which makes the drying off process a whole lot easier.
However, because this Griot’s 3-In-1 Ceramic Wax review is honest and accurate, I want to prepare you to not expect any magic from this product. After a week or two, depending on your environment, you’ll notice that your car needs to be washed. If you want a product that is really spectacular in terms of longevity, that’s definitely Nexgen Ceramic Spray. Nexgen has the highest SiO2 content on the market, a staggering 13%, and its water-repelling action lasted more than 2 months on my car.
How Long Does Griot’s Garage Ceramic 3-in-1 Wax Last?
I recommend buying the 22oz if only purchasing for your car. This is because I was comfortable with the results for up to five months after just one session.
I’ve read reviews where people were satisfied with Griot’s 3-in-1 Ceramic Wax for up to a year, so it probably depends on the user and the conditions your vehicle has to deal with.
As I said, I live in pretty rough weather conditions and use my car daily to get to work. I think that, if you’re a stickler for maintaining that “first-day” gloss, you can get away with applying it every two months without it streaking, based on the reviews I’ve read.
I’ve also read that to maximize the benefits of the wax, it would be a good idea to use a clay bar to smooth your car’s surface before application. This will give your vehicle more of an even coating and increase the lifespan of the product’s benefits.
Layering With Different Wax?
There were many questions on whether it would be a good idea to layer a different brand of wax on top of Griot’s Garage 3-in-1. Based on the customer reviews I’ve read, it wasn’t a good idea as it doesn’t add any benefits if you’re to use a different layer. You would just be covering up the first layer.
Would I Buy Griot’s Garage Ceramic 3-In-1 Wax Again?
I would definitely purchase it again. It did a great job on my car, staying true to its promise of having superior hydrophobic properties and an admirable sheen at the end of the waxing session.
I also appreciate that a little goes a long way. After the waxing session, I used less than a quarter of the 22oz bottle, which means I can get at least three more coating sessions from the bottle before needing to buy another.
However, there are a few things I didn’t like about the product, though they weren’t annoying enough for me to not purchase it in the future.
Griot’s Garage Ceramic Wax Cons
If you really want your car to shine, expect to do at least three coats per session, especially if you hope to go months without reapplying. This really reminded me of a similar product, Turtle Wax Ice.
I have seen some recommend waiting 24 hours between coats. I find that a bit time-consuming, but, as I said before, the pay-off is worth it.
Conclusion
As a conclusion for this review, I believe Griot’s Garage Ceramic 3-in-1 Wax really holds true to what it promises. I’m more than satisfied with the gloss it gave my car. I’m also quite impressed with the water-beading and its resistance to dirt. I would definitely recommend this product for your next waxing.
