What’s the difference between Topcoat F11 and Topcoat F11 Pro?

The price!  Topcoat F11 Pro is priced at $34.95 for an 8 oz bottle, and the classic Topcoat F11 is priced at $24.99 for an 8 oz bottle.  That’s a 40% increase in MSRP price.  The biggest difference between the two according to the company, is the PRO is a functional ceramic, advertise to last 12+ months vs. 6-8 months for the classic F11. Not only that, with the PRO they have made changes to the formula to further enhance the surface it’s applied on, fill in and improve imperfections better, leave a more hydrophobic surface, and it is detergent, solvent, and chemical resistant allowing it to withstand harsher conditions and keep the surface looking new.  All in all a stronger formula which explains the higher price point.   The Classic F11 has been on the market for years and they have essentially taken that and improved it.  It’s odd that they call it a functional ceramic, while at the same time saying ceramics are outdated formulas.

What Surfaces Can You Use Topcoat F11 Pro On?

Topcoat F11 Pro can be applied to a wide variety of surfaces, making it a versatile choice for protection and enhancement:

  • All painted surfaces including matte, gloss, and satin finishes
  • Clear-coated paint systems
  • Glass windows and windshields
  • Metals such as chrome, polished aluminum, and stainless steel
  • Plastics and vinyl including trims and graphics
  • Leather interiors
  • Rubber components like gaskets and door seals
  • Fiberglass and gelcoat, commonly found on boats and RVs
  • Composite materials including carbon fiber
  • Convertible tops made from vinyl or cloth

You might get better surface protection from other specialty products, but Topcoat F11 Pro has great versatility.  You can basically coat your entire vehicle.

How Do You Use Topcoat F11 Pro, and How Long Does It Take To Apply?

Topcoat F11 Pro is a versatile “spray, buff, and wipe” product, making its application quick and straightforward. It’s not a ceramic spray; rather, it’s a 3-in-1 solution designed to clean, protect, and enhance gloss on a variety of surfaces. This efficient application process doesn’t take very long, allowing for rapid and effective enhancement and protection without the lengthy preparation or curing times associated with ceramic coatings. Ideal for those looking for a multipurpose product, F11 Pro offers a convenient way to maintain and improve the appearance of your vehicle with minimal effort.

What’s The Downside?

Although it’s easy to use, be ready for paying a premium there isn’t a downside.  Topcoat f11 has numerous detailing products, with The F11 line being their most well known.  There are some bold claims about how Amino-functional technology is a real breakthrough (hint: it isn’t), and they claim Topcoat F11 Pro can do everything, which is sort of a farce.  It’s okay, but certainly not the best, which happens a lot with versatile products.  It’s water beading hydrophobic qualities are average.  For those who are into car detailing,  you’ve heard the terms  self-healing and self-leveling.  Which Topcoat F11 Pro boasts these properties—impressive claims for a spray product. Naturally, as a water-based formula, it inherently self-levels; its fluid consistency ensures it spreads evenly without the risk of clogging the sprayer. However, the term “self-healing” is often used in the industry more as a marketing term than a definitive feature, as its actual impact can vary. While these features may sound promising, it’s important to approach them with a practical understanding of their limitations in a spray format.

Cons: What Might Bother You:

  • Streaking Issues: Some users have noted that the product can leave streaks if not buffed properly, which can be frustrating for those expecting a flawless finish.
  • Value for Money: There are mixed feelings about its overall cost-effectiveness, with some users questioning whether the results justify the investment.  There are other cheaper products that have superior protection.

What Are Others Saying About Topcoat F11 Pro??

Topcoat F11 Pro has garnered a strong customer feedback score on Amazon, achieving 4.5 out of 5 stars across 472 ratings  That’s somewhat a low amount of ratings, so we’d want to know why arn’t there more?  Are people satisfied with the old formula?  While the product is generally well-received for its ease of application, effective protection, and overall performance, there are notable concerns regarding its value for money and streak resistance. Given its premium price tag, customers have high expectations, and while many appreciate the product’s capabilities, the cost and issues like streaking are points of contention for some.  Maybe everyone prefers the old formula?    One thing’s for sure, it’s not going to substitute for a real polishing or a ceramic coating for  paint protection.

What is Amino-Functional Technology?  Why Should I care?

Well, to be honest, you shouldn’t care.  There is a lot of marketing gimmicks around detailing products.  Amino-functional technology, particularly in the form of amino-functional silicones, like in Topcoat F11 Pro,, has been utilized in various applications for several decades.  It makes for good marketing buzzwords, but it’s nothing particularly new or innovative.  Sure, it can be better than other formulas, but it’s not any type of true breakthrough in technology.

How to apply Topcoat F11 Pro?

Step-by-Step Application Guide for Topcoat F11 Pro

  1. Prepare the Surface:
    • For best results ensure the surface is clean and free from dirt, grime, and contaminants. It’s best to wash the vehicle or surface thoroughly before application.  Make sure it’s a clean cool surface.
    • Make sure the surface is cool to the touch and out of direct sunlight. Ambient temperature conditions are ideal for application to prevent the product from evaporating too quickly and to ensure a smooth finish.
  2. Apply Topcoat F11 Pro:
    • Shake the bottle well before use to mix the formula.
    • Spray  the surface you intend to enhance, coat, and protect. You don’t need to saturate the area heavily; a light to moderate spray is sufficient.
  3. Buff the Surface:
    • Use a clean, high-quality microfiber towel to spread  evenly across the surface. Hand buff into the surface, flipping to a dry portion of the microfiber towel frequently to ensure even application and to avoid streaks.
    • It’s important to use light to moderate pressure to work the product into the surface and activate its bonding properties.
  4. Final Buffing:
    • After spreading and hand buffing the product, take another clean and dry microfiber towel and give the surface a final buff. This step is crucial to ensure that F11PRO® is entirely polished into the surface, removing any excess product and enhancing the shine and protective layer.
  5. Proceed Section by Section:
    • Focus on one section or area at a time, complete it entirely, and then move to the next section. This method ensures thorough coverage and prevents missing any spots.

Can you use Topcoat F11 Pro on glass?

  • Yes, you can use Topcoat F11 Pro on glass. It is formulated to work on all glass surfaces, providing a clear, protective coating that enhances visibility and repels contaminants.

Can you use Topcoat F11 Pro on professional ceramic coating?

Using Topcoat F11 Pro on a professional ceramic coating can be done, but it might not be necessary.  Professional ceramic coating typically offer a robust level of protection and glossiness on their own, superior protection really. Applying F11 Pro over a ceramic coating could add extra shine and hydrophobic effects, but it could also interfere with the breathability.  You should ask the manufacturer of your professional ceramic coating about this.   Car detailing specialists might have different opinions.  If you choose to apply it, it should be used as a maintenance topper, not as a replacement for regular ceramic coating upkeep.

How Long Does Topcoat F11 Pro Last?

Topcoat F11 Pro claims long-lasting durability. A single application can last up to a year, although this can vary based on environmental factors and how the surface is used and maintained. After a few washes, we could tell the product was starting to fail.  Topcoat says to re-apply every few months for optimal protection and appearance.   The  UV protection, surface paint protection, won’t last unless you continue to apply it.

The Bottom Line: How Good Is Topcoat F11 Pro? Is It Worth It?

When evaluating the overall value and effectiveness of Topcoat F11 Pro, there are several factors to consider.  As car detailing professionals or enthusiasts you need to take the good with the bad, F11 Pro offers a range of benefits, including enhanced protection, ease of use, and a improvement in appearance for a variety of surfaces.

However, the real question of whether Topcoat F11 Pro is worth the investment largely comes down to its price tag. Given that F11 Pro is positioned at a premium price point in the market, the cost may not justify the performance for everyone, especially when compared to other products that might offer similar benefits at a lower cost. For those on a budget or who do not require such extensive features, the investment in F11 Pro might seem excessive.  It’s water beading is average.

While Topcoat F11 Pro is an okay product that delivers on its promises of protection and shine, its high cost can be a significant deterrent. It’s an okay choice if you’re looking for high-end features and do not mind paying a premium, but for those seeking value for money, there might be other options in the market that provide a better balance of cost and performance.
